A chemical compound of carbon and oxygen with the empirical formula CO. Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, toxic and poisonous gas which is produced by incomplete combustion of carbon-containing substances (e.g. two-stroke engines, combustion processes - primarily due to lack of oxygen). If CO is inhaled by humans, the oxygen absorption capacity of the blood decreases.
